Description

The final image in Rob Caswell and my series based on details within Arthur C. Clarke's 2010: Odyssey Two. The Leonov nears the moon and begins the braking burn which will settle it into its final orbit. The double sunrise symbolizes the dramatic changes wrought upon Earth, and the entire Solar System, by the conversion of Jupiter into a sun.

Done in Lightwave 10 and Photoshop.

Thanks for hanging in with us, over the entire series. Its been a real challenge, and labor of love.

I got into Orbiter Space Sim years ago, and saw the Space Odyssey mod pack with the ships. The creator took the time and effort to replicate the flight base on the information from the books. It was spot on. The dates and times of the maneuvers line up perfectly where the planets would actually be, or, given the current date, where they *were*, making replicating the flight of the Leonov entirely possible with realistically spec-ed engines.

That still amazes me to this day that Clarke took the time to do the math....
