Bon Voyage by Drell-7 Bon Voyage by Drell-7
The NERVA Boosters, having injected the Argosy spacecraft onto their Mars trajectory, separate from the mission spacecraft. After their crews perform maneuvers to widen the distance between the boosters and the Argosy ships, they will use their main engines to brake, and begin an elliptical course back to low Earth orbit. There, they will be refueled and refurbished for work in cislunar space.

Modeled and rendered in Lightwave 10, and touched up in Photoshop CS3.

Thanks for taking a look!

Outstanding design, modeling, and execution, and your attention to detail in your historical research deserves a standing ovation. In just a few views I've become a major fan of your work.

If only other sci-fi art had as much thought put into it...

You know, if you're not careful you'll have to write a book: "The Past History of our Future in Space".

It's just so sobering to see how shrunken our dreams have become. The universe waits for us with open arms, while we find our navel more and more fascinating.

I love the camera angle here, blow and looking up. You might have tried applying the foreshortening trick here... but it's still an impressive and elegant work. If there were a heaven, Von Braun and McCall would both be sporting head-splitting grins. I agree with what Karanua said, above: when you're wearing your "How the Solar System Was Won" shoes, you're in top form.

I know you won't do it.... but you really should at least consider creating a print-on-demand calendar with these.

Your "How the Solar System was won" illustrations are truly breathtaking, is there a book in the pipeline for these? I for one would love a copy, ok two copies - one to read one to keep safe.
