Escort Duty by Drell-7 Escort Duty by Drell-7
The Ranger class Scout U.S.S. Audubon plays mother hen to a convoy of Star Fleet freighters through a region plagued with Orion pirate attacks. Although designed mainly for long-range exploration, the Ranger proved itself admirably capable in the role of escort, with its twin photon torpedo tubes and two phaser banks.

Ptolomy-class by Axeman 3D, Antares by Richmerk. Huron and Ranger by me. Gas Giant by preetiboy.

Rendered in Lightwave 10. Thanks for taking a look!

Did any of ya'll (Rob, AbaKon, etc.  You know the 3d braintrust)  make a FASA Movie era ranger?  Just wondering.  Loved the design ever since the Murder Mystery ST RPG module.  Wish I still had it....lol.

Some of the "rank and file" of the fleet get a little love and care, and it's long overdue!:D

I like the plasma-exhaust effect a lot. True, we don't see that on the shows, but then they have ships moving around on the screen. A static render makes it harder to convey speed and motion.

Love the colony/freighter ship.
That one I have seen in books, but not enough render it.

Well, yeah, they did the same to me. I'm hoping the Captain of the Audubon is better at it than I ever was...and also maybe the Orion's field some smaller ships...

Thank you, sir! It was a little bit of a monster, getting all the elements to work together. I'm glad to read you like the result!

Thanks! I'm glad you like the palette-it almost got away from me a couple of times. The plasma streams -although we never see anything like them in the shows or movies - seem to work pretty well as a mechanism to indicate motion in the scene. Glad you like 'em!

It works a treat - and the scene is just stunning! I understand what you mean about the pallet - still struggling with colour arrangements myself - but there is hope.

Again, this is great and stunning - be proud sir - I would be :D

Hey, hey - the gang's all here! Quite the group shot and I see you've gone for my impulse plasma effect ;) The low angle is cool, but I can see where this composition presented you with a challenge! Nice stuff.
Nice FX on the bussard glow, too.

I thought your plasma trails were inspired! I wanted to give the impression of the Audubon moving quickly through the convoy, and I think the trails really telegraph that. This one is a geek fest for me, several of my favorite Trek ships, all together for the first time! :D
