Haephaestos' Forge: On the Shore of Night

A manned Daedalus-derived starship arriving at a superjovian world that orbits a red dwarf within the star’s “Goldilocks Zone”. The gas giant has a large moon on which water has been detected. The ship is in the process of terminal braking, to settle into orbit around the moon. The speed sketch that started this piece was awarded 2nd place in the Farmaker Speedsketch competition in August 2013, as part of the first Starship Congress.
