One of my favorite movies is "Lawrence of Arabia", and one of my favorite scenes in that film is Lawrence experiencing a huge sand devil as he crosses the Sinai desert with only a single companion. This is my take on that scene, transplanted to Mars.

The Mars terrain, rocks and astronaut were modeled and textured in Lightwave. The robot is the R800 available at Daz. After a lot of experimenting with hypervoxels, I eventually fell back to painting the Sand Tornado and other atmospheric effects in Photoshop CS, with a lot of custom brushes (some of ehich were the same ones I originally made to do the landscape textures).

I really like this idea and how you executed it. A great take on both Laurence of Arabia and the Ten Commandments. And naturally Mars would provide a huge dust devil. The piece might be more balanced with less detailed texture on the ground and more in the sky. Or not. A great image.

I've wondered about the soft detail in the sky versus the hard detail on the groound a long time, and at various points I've liked what I did and hated it.It is supposed to be a contrast of visual fields, but I can never decide if it totally works or not. Which probably means I'll revisit the theme again, sometime. I'm glad you got some enjoyment out of it! :D

Is this all your hand in terms of the spacecraft art???
Oh please lets see more of this astronautic/ astronomical visions.

Too bad NASA not up to equaling these.

Yeah, its all mine. Some of the designs are based on advanced design studies for projected future vehicles, by NASA and others, but the actual vehicles in specifics are mine.

He can be relaxed, because a little Tornado on Mars won't have a big froce on him. The atmospheric pressure isn't high enough.^^
