Alan Hart and Andrew March's wonderful Y-Wing model. The "Y" has been my favorite Star Wars design since I saw the first Ralph McQuarrie concept painting of it.

Lightwave 10, and post work in Photoshop.
Thanks for having a look!

My fav SW ship too as I had the toy when I was young, beautiful scene! Figuredt the Y-wing would be faster than other fighters because of those big honkin' engines.

Very nice :)

I do sometimes wonder about the engines on the Y-wing though. what is the rear half that looks like some kind of support structure for?

There is an reason for it. And it actually goes back to real-world rocketry design. The Cross shape at the end is a set of steering vanes, put there to vector the thrust from the engines. This was done in early ballistic missile designs. Not sure why they are so offset from the actual thrust chambers, though...

Thanks for the explanation :) I didn't think that they would be related to real-world rocketry because of the offset. When I was younger, I thought it was some kind of clear-walled chamber or something.

Excellent shot, you don't see the Y-Wings enough in my opinion.
